How to collect oysters
Oysters lie on the seabed. Swim to the spot, dive and swim through the oyster — the money is credited instantly.
The main limit is air. Lung Capacity grows while CJ swims underwater, so your first dives will be short. Do not go for the far spots on your first try: surface, take a breath and dive again.
According to Grand Theft Wiki, it is easiest to get there by boat or in a Sea Sparrow. Where to find vehicles is covered on the GTA San Andreas vehicles page.
The fastest way along the coast is by boat. According to PowerPyx, there is one, for example, at the docks in the south of Las Venturas.
Wanted level: locked regions and the Easter Basin base
Technically you can collect oysters from the start of the game. But until the story unlocks a region, entering it gets you 4 wanted stars. So it is easier to wait until Las Venturas and the whole map are open (see GTA San Andreas missions).
The exception is the Easter Basin Naval Station military base in San Fierro (No. 28 and 29 in the table). You get a wanted level there even after the city is unlocked. Sources disagree on how many stars: GTA Wiki and PowerPyx say 5, gta-sanandreas.com says 4. Expect a high wanted level: grab the oyster and swim away right away.

Numbering follows GTA Wiki (gta.fandom.com). Other guides, such as gta-sanandreas.com and PowerPyx, start counting from Los Santos, so the numbers do not match between sites. Where a spot sits on a border between areas, both are listed.

What you get for all 50 oysters
- $100,000 as a bonus on top of $100 for each — $105,000 in total.
- Maximum lung capacity. Grand Theft Wiki clarifies that lung capacity grows with time spent underwater, not with the number of oysters. Both descriptions agree: the stat grows while you swim, and the 50th oyster maxes it out.
- Any girlfriend. CJ can date any girl regardless of Sex Appeal, physique (fat, muscle) and looks.
Sources disagree about Sex Appeal. gta-sanandreas.com says the stat goes up to maximum. GTA Wiki, Grand Theft Wiki, PowerPyx and Gamer Guides say the stat does not change; the girls just stop paying attention to it. We go with the majority.
According to GTA Wiki, after collecting all the oysters you can restart a relationship with a girlfriend you broke up with (except the story girlfriends Denise Robinson and Millie Perkins). More about the girlfriends themselves on the GTA San Andreas girlfriends page.
The bonus applies to girlfriends only: according to Gamer Guides, it has no effect on ordinary pedestrians.
Oysters in the original, on mobile and in the Definitive Edition
Guides for the 2021 Definitive Edition list the same 50 oysters and the same rewards: $100,000, lung capacity, girlfriends. There is no data on changes in the 2013 mobile version either.
There is no separate achievement for them — they only count toward 100% for the Remastered achievement (see GTA San Andreas achievements).
Tips
- Start with the pools. No. 12, 45 and 48 are in swimming pools — no boat needed. No. 45 is in the same guitar-shaped V-Rock Hotel pool as horseshoe No. 31, so you can grab both in one visit.
- Do bridges in batches. The bridges of Flint County (No. 4–7) and San Fierro (No. 30, 34, 35) are easy to clear in one run.
- Leave the Easter Basin base for last. Save before No. 28–29 and be ready to flee.

Do oysters raise Sex Appeal?
According to most sources, no. The stat stays the same, but girlfriends stop paying attention to it. Only gta-sanandreas.com says Sex Appeal is maxed out.
Are oysters needed for 100% in GTA San Andreas?
Yes, all 50. You cannot miss them for good, and the Definitive Edition has the same requirement.
