There are no GTA 6 reviews yet. According to insiders, the embargo lifts on November 18, the day before launch. We track Metacritic and OpenCritic scores, publishing times and the scores of GTA IV, GTA V and RDR2 for comparison.
GTA 6 scores on Metacritic and OpenCritic
We will update this table the day the first reviews go live. For now, the game's page on both aggregators has no critic scores.
| Aggregator | Critic score | Status on Nov 5, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Metacritic (PS5) | — | no reviews yet |
| Metacritic (Xbox Series X|S) | — | no reviews yet |
| OpenCritic | — | no reviews yet |
If you have seen a screenshot like “GTA 6 — 97 on Metacritic”, check the date: there can be no real scores before the embargo lifts. Numbers like that were already circulating in October 2026, and checks showed there were no reviews on Metacritic itself.
When GTA 6 reviews come out
A review embargo is the date and time from which outlets may publish their reviews. The publisher sets it, and that is when scores appear on aggregators.
What we know about GTA 6:
- On October 26, 2026, insider NateTheHate posted on X that Rockstar had started sending review copies to the press and that the embargo is November 18. The same day, Insider Gaming said it had independently verified the date.
- On October 23, insider BlackBate was the first to name November 18 and added times: Metacritic scores around 11:00–12:00 UTC (6–7 a.m. ET), while some sites and YouTube channels would reportedly have to wait until 05:01 UTC on November 19 (12:01 a.m. ET). Nobody else has confirmed these times.
- Rockstar and Take-Two have not announced the embargo date or which outlets received the game.
So November 18 is the most likely but unofficial date. The game launches on November 19, 2026, which is official; details are on the GTA 6 release date page.
How earlier Rockstar games were scored
Rockstar usually opens reviews shortly before release. Here is how it went with the studio's biggest games:
| Game | First reviews | Release | Critic score |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA IV | April 25, 2008 | April 29, 2008 | 98 on Metacritic, the series record |
| GTA V | September 16, 2013 | September 17, 2013 | 97 on Metacritic (PS3 and Xbox 360) |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | October 25, 2018 | October 26, 2018 | 97 on Metacritic (PS4), 95 on OpenCritic |
The “reviews the day before launch” pattern of GTA V and RDR2 matches the date now reported for GTA 6. What to expect from the game is covered on our GTA 6 gameplay and story pages.
Reviews will land after pre-load starts
GTA 6 pre-loading opens on November 10, as Rockstar confirmed on November 3. That means most buyers will download the game before the first reviews. If you are waiting for reviews to decide whether to buy, you will have less than a day: from November 18 until the game unlocks on the night of the 19th.
