GTA 6 file size and system requirements: how many GB you need and why there are no PC specs

Updated: 04.11.2026 Author: Alex Rayne
The Leonida Keys islands — official GTA 6 screenshot

There are no official GTA 6 system requirements because the game is not coming to PC at launch. Here is which console you need, how much space the game may take, why the "GTA 6 requirements" tables online are made up and what is known about PS5 Pro.

In short
  • There are no PC system requirements: GTA 6 has not been announced for PC.
  • To play, you need a PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S.
  • Rockstar puts the file size at up to 212 GB depending on your device (November 3 announcement); there are no separate PS5 and Xbox figures.
  • A Rockstar developer mentioned 30 fps at the current stage; a 60 fps mode has not been confirmed.
  • Pre-loading starts on November 10, so free up space in advance.
  • "Minimum and recommended GTA 6 requirements" tables online are made up.

What you need to play GTA 6

One of these consoles is enough: PlayStation 5 (including PS5 Pro) or Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has not set any model-specific requirements: Xbox Series S is on the official platform list, and the game gets improvements on PS5 Pro (the "PS5 Pro Enhanced" label).

You will need an internet connection to download the game and a PlayStation Network or Xbox account.

What each console gets

ConsoleSupportedWhat is officially stated
PlayStation 5yesRemote Play; DualSense haptic feedback, adaptive triggers and controller speaker; Tempest 3D Audio; fast loading from the SSD (game page on playstation.com)
PlayStation 5 Proyes"PS5 Pro Enhanced" label on PlayStation Store; neither Rockstar nor Sony has said what exactly is improved
Xbox Series Xyes"Optimized for Xbox Series X|S" label, Xbox achievements, cloud saves (Xbox Store)
Xbox Series Syesthe same "Optimized for Xbox Series X|S" label; nothing has been said about resolution or frame rate on Series S specifically
PS4, Xbox Onenoaccording to Sony's FAQ, the game "will be available only on PlayStation 5"; Rockstar has not announced versions for older consoles

Neither Rockstar nor the PlayStation and Xbox store pages list HDR, 4K or ray tracing support, so promises like "4K/60 on PS5 Pro" are not backed by anything yet.

Frame rate: 30 or 60 fps

Rockstar has not published official technical specs. The only thing on record is what Rob Nelson of Rockstar North said in an interview with Flow Games, as reported by Push Square and Inven Global: at the current stage of development the console version runs at 30 fps, and no decision on a 60 fps mode has been made before launch.

That reflects the state of things in August 2026, not a final spec. Rockstar has not said whether PS5 Pro will get a higher frame rate.

How much space GTA 6 will take

On November 3, 2026, Rockstar announced that the GTA 6 pre-load is up to 212 GB depending on your device. It did not give separate figures for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The earlier unofficial estimate of about 210 GB on PS5, from the PlayStation Game Size account, turned out almost exactly right.

Before that, the game's Xbox Store page showed 328.76 MB, which was only a pre-order placeholder package. Rockstar has not said anything about a day-one patch.

Practical advice: by November 10, when pre-loading starts, free up 250 GB or more on your console. That is our margin for a day-one patch and updates, not a Rockstar requirement. Details are on the GTA 6 file size page.

Pre-loadNovember 10, 2026: PS5 at midnight local time, Xbox Series X|S at 00:00 GMT; boxed codes on sale from November 12official (Rockstar Newswire)
PC system requirementsnone, no PC version announcedofficial (no announcement)
PS5 Pro improvements"PS5 Pro Enhanced" label, no detailsofficial label

Rockstar has not published official resolution or frame rate figures for any console; what a developer said about 30 fps is in the frame rate section above. More about the PC situation is on the GTA 6 on PC page, and launch-day steps are in the GTA 6 launch prep guide.

Checklist: get your console ready by November 10

  • Check your free space in the console's storage settings and clear 250 GB or more: Rockstar's figure is up to 212 GB, plus room for a day-one patch.
  • Delete or move games you are not playing: on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S you can download them again later, and your saves stay in your account or on the console.
  • Buy the game in advance: pre-loading is only available for digital pre-orders and codes from the box. The boxed Standard Edition goes on sale on November 12, and you need to redeem the code inside to start the download.
  • Leave the console in Rest Mode (PS5) or Sleep (Xbox) with downloads allowed, so the game comes down without you.
  • Check your PlayStation Network or Xbox account and your internet connection: you cannot download the game without them.

The full to-do list before launch is in our GTA 6 launch prep checklist.

Why "GTA 6 PC requirements" are fake

Rockstar has not announced a PC version, so it has not published system requirements either. The tables of CPUs, graphics cards and RAM floating around websites and videos are guesswork or outright fabrication, often designed to lure you to a "download" page with malware. GTA 6 system requirements: frequently asked questions

What are the GTA 6 system requirements?

There are none for PC, because the game has not been announced for PC. You can play on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

How many GB is GTA 6?

Up to 212 GB depending on your device, according to Rockstar's November 3 announcement. There are no separate figures for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Will GTA 6 run on Xbox Series S?

Yes, Series S is on the official platform list.

Do I need a PS5 Pro?

No, the game runs on a standard PS5. On PS5 Pro it gets enhancements that Rockstar has not detailed yet.

When can I pre-load GTA 6?

From November 10, 2026: on PS5 at midnight local time, on Xbox Series X|S at 00:00 GMT for all regions (7:00 PM ET on November 9). Pre-loading is open to digital pre-orders; boxed download codes go on sale on November 12.

Will GTA 6 run on PS4 or Xbox One?

No. The only official platforms are PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, so previous-generation consoles are not supported.

Is GTA 6 on a disc, or do I have to download it anyway?

You download it either way. The boxed Standard Edition contains a download code, not the game on a disc, so you need free space on the console in every case.

Do I need the internet to play GTA 6?

You need an internet connection to download the game, plus a PlayStation Network or Xbox account. Rockstar has not said that story mode requires a constant connection.

What frame rate will GTA 6 run at?

Rockstar has not said officially. According to Rob Nelson of Rockstar North in an interview with Flow Games, the console version currently runs at 30 fps, and no decision on a 60 fps mode has been made yet.
