GTA 6 safehouses: Jason's first home is in the Keys, homes change with each story chapter, and residents follow their own schedules like the camp in RDR2. Garages for 3 cars, a personal vehicle and Ultimate Edition properties. What Rockstar confirmed and what we know from previews.
What's officially known about GTA 6 safehouses
Rockstar hasn't published a dedicated page about the leads' homes. The information comes from three sources: the official character bios and region descriptions on the game's website, the contents of Ultimate Edition, and interviews with Rob Nelson (Rockstar North) for Famitsu and IGN in fall 2026. Interview details describe a preview build and may change before the November 19 release.

The first safehouse: Jason in the Keys
According to his official bio, Jason Duval ended up in the Keys after the army and works for local drug runners. He wants an easy life, but things only get more complicated. His place comes from Brian Heder, an old drug smuggler from the Keys who lets him live rent-free in exchange for help with "local business". Hence the first safehouse: a small house in Leonida Keys. More about Brian and the other characters on our GTA 6 characters page.
Nelson told Famitsu that other people live in the house too, and each has their own routine: someone's asleep, someone's watching TV, someone's heading out on errands. When you switch to a character, you catch them in the middle of everyday life — Nelson told IGN he once switched over to find Jason in the shower.
Why safehouses feel like the camp in RDR2
In GTA 5, a safehouse was a place to save, change clothes and park your car. In Red Dead Redemption 2, the gang's camp had a life of its own: people talked, worked, reacted to story events, and the camp itself moved as the story progressed.
Nelson told IGN that GTA 6 safehouses are closer to that approach. That means two things worth knowing in advance:
- homes aren't permanent — the leads move with new chapters, so don't expect one house for the whole game;
- a safehouse is part of the story, not just a save menu: the people around you react to what's happening.
Rockstar hasn't said whether you can buy your own house or apartment like in GTA 5. We haven't found property, business or house purchases with prices in any official material.
Garages and your personal vehicle
Garages in GTA 6 are purchasable. According to Nelson, you start with space for 3 cars, and more costs money. That's one of the reasons, he says, money matters more in GTA 6 than in previous games.
Your personal vehicle works like a mobile storage unit: you can call it any time, and it holds spare clothes and the weapons you've bought. That comes in handy when you need to change your description fast and lose a wanted level — we explain how that works on our GTA 6 wanted level page.
Another way to get cars is the car delivery app on your phone (the press calls it Scooter Bros). Big rifles that you can't conceal on you can be stored in an Ammu-Nation locker.
What Ultimate Edition adds
Some properties and vehicles are only sold with Ultimate Edition. According to Rockstar and the PlayStation Store listing, it includes:
- vehicles for Jason's safehouse — a Dinka Enduro motorcycle and a Crest kayak;
- '67 Vapid Dominator Buggy together with the Paradise Garage in Watson Bay;
- the PTT Youngin$ gang compound;
- businesses: the Rideout Customs and One-Eyed Willie's tuning shops, Sara's Unisex Salon, the Stock 305 clothing store and the Electric Fang Tattoo parlor.
Rockstar says Ultimate content unlocks gradually with the story's chapters, not all at once. Everything about editions and prices is on our GTA 6 editions and GTA 6 price pages.
Gang stash houses: not the same as your home
The game has other "safehouses" too — the gangs'. Nelson told Famitsu that the map shows gang stash houses and how much cash and drugs are inside. You can rob them and take the goods to a fence. The official description of the Ambrosia region mentions a biker gang. How to make money from this is in our guide on how to make money in GTA 6, and where the regions are is on the GTA 6 map.
Where does Jason live at the start of GTA 6?
In Leonida Keys. According to his official bio, his place comes from Brian Heder, whom Jason works for.
Can you buy a house in GTA 6?
Rockstar hasn't said. The only confirmed purchases are garages. The leads' safehouses change along with the story.
How many cars fit in a GTA 6 garage?
According to Rob Nelson, 3 spaces to start. Extra spaces cost money.
Do Jason and Lucia share a safehouse?
The two act as a pair, and according to Nelson safehouses change with the chapters. Rockstar hasn't revealed how many homes each will have or when they'll live together, to avoid story spoilers.
What are the safehouse vehicles in Ultimate Edition?
A Dinka Enduro motorcycle and a Crest kayak for Jason's safehouse. They're only included in Ultimate Edition.
