GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition on iOS and Android: the December 14, 2023 release, why the games are no longer on Netflix, how to get GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas now, what they cost, system requirements and size, controller support, languages, and how the remaster differs from the 2011–2013 mobile ports.
Release and Netflix: then and now
The remasters of GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas came to phones on December 14, 2023, two years after the PC and console versions. Netflix subscribers got all three games with no extra cost, ads or in-game purchases — through the App Store, Google Play and the Netflix app. At the same time, the games were sold separately without a subscription.
According to Rockstar Support (the Netflix version FAQ, 2023), that version required an active Netflix subscription, the Netflix app, an internet connection and free storage.
That arrangement has ended:
| Game | Removed from Netflix | Source |
|---|---|---|
| GTA III – Definitive | December 13, 2024 | Engadget, GTA BOOM, Sportskeeda |
| Vice City – Definitive | December 13, 2024 | Engadget, GTA BOOM, Sportskeeda |
| San Andreas – Definitive | December 12, 2025 | GTA BOOM |
San Andreas was replaced on Netflix by Red Dead Redemption NETFLIX. According to GTA BOOM, saves from the Netflix version of San Andreas don't carry over to the regular version.
As of November 6, 2026, searching the App Store for “GTA NETFLIX” from Netflix, Inc. shows only Red Dead Redemption NETFLIX, and the Google Play pages for the Netflix versions of GTA no longer open. So older articles advising you to “play GTA free with Netflix” are out of date.
How to get GTA Trilogy on your phone now
On mobile, the trilogy is three separate apps from Rockstar Games. There's no “whole trilogy” bundle in the mobile stores like there is on PC and consoles.
| Game | App Store | Google Play |
|---|---|---|
| GTA III – Definitive | Free download, 30 minutes of play, then the full game as a one-time in-app purchase | Free, with in-app purchases |
| Vice City – Definitive | Same: 30 minutes, then an in-app purchase | Free, with in-app purchases |
| San Andreas – Definitive | $19.99 | $19.99 |
Prices as of November 2–6, 2026. The stores don't show the price of the full-game purchase inside GTA III and Vice City on the listing page.
GTA+. According to the App Store description, GTA+ members get unlimited access to GTA III and Vice City while their subscription is active. What else GTA+ includes is covered on the GTA Trilogy price page.
No APKs. Officially the games are only on the App Store and Google Play. “GTA Trilogy APK” or “full version free” files from third-party sites are not from Rockstar.
System requirements and size
| GTA III – Definitive | Vice City – Definitive | San Andreas – Definitive | |
|---|---|---|---|
| iOS / iPadOS | 16.0 or later | 16.0 or later | 16.0 or later |
| App Store size | 1.88 GB | 3.0 GB | 2.81 GB |
| Android | 8.0 or later — according to Rockstar Support (Netflix version FAQ, 2023) | ||
| Storage used on Android after install (approx.) | ~2.9 GB | ~3.9 GB | ~7.9 GB |
| Latest iOS update | 1.84.2, Aug 18, 2025 | 1.90.0, Sep 11, 2025 | 1.86, Apr 8, 2024 |
| Age rating | 17+ (App Store), Mature 17+ (Google Play) | ||
App Store data as of November 6, 2026. The apps are universal: one purchase works on both iPhone and iPad.
Sources have given different minimum iOS versions: Rockstar's 2023 FAQ for the Netflix version said iOS 15, while the current App Store listing requires 16.0 — go by 16.0. We couldn't find an official minimum Android version for the current (non-Netflix) builds.
The Android size is confusing: the download itself is smaller (476–732 MB, per Sportskeeda), but after the extra data downloads the game takes up several gigabytes (Cashify's measurements). Keep at least ~4 GB free for GTA III or Vice City and ~8 GB for San Andreas.
Whether you can play offline hasn't been officially confirmed, so we don't promise it here.
Controls, controllers and language
The remaster's controls were brought closer to GTA V. Besides touch controls, controllers are supported — TouchArcade and Sportskeeda confirm this. Console cheat combos work with a controller too.
Language. The voice acting is in English. The App Store lists the same languages for all three games: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional) and Spanish.
Cheats. In the mobile Definitive Edition you can enter cheats in two ways: pause menu → Options → the Accessibility tab → the Enter Cheat Code button (PC codes), or with combos on a controller. Details are on the GTA Trilogy cheats page; the codes themselves are on the GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas pages.
How the Definitive Edition differs from the 2011–2013 mobile ports
The old mobile ports are still on sale: GTA III (December 15, 2011), Vice City (December 6, 2012) and San Andreas (December 12, 2013). These are completely different apps, so don't confuse them with the Definitive Edition.
| 2011–2013 ports | Definitive Edition (2023) | |
|---|---|---|
| Developer and engine | War Drum Studios, RenderWare | Grove Street Games (formerly War Drum), Unreal Engine 4 |
| Graphics | Original, with smoothing for phones | High-resolution textures, new lighting |
| Controls | Touch; San Andreas offers three control schemes (per the App Store description) | Like GTA V |
| Cheats | No code field, a physical keyboard is needed | Enter Cheat Code field in the Accessibility menu |
| Price (US) | GTA III $4.99, Vice City $4.99, San Andreas $6.99 | GTA III and Vice City — trial plus purchase, San Andreas — $19.99 |
| Minimum iOS | 8.0 (GTA III, Vice City), 13.0 (San Andreas) | 16.0 |
| App Store size | 0.74 / 1.17 / 2.66 GB | 1.88 / 3.0 / 2.81 GB |
A nice detail: the “classic lighting” option, as in the originals, arrived first in the mobile Definitive Edition, and in November 2024 it was brought to PC and consoles (Neowin, GamesRadar).
GamesRadar wrote that the mobile trilogy is closer to the feel of the originals than the PC and console versions were at launch, and TouchArcade named it Game of the Week on December 22, 2023.
More on the two mobile versions of San Andreas is on the GTA San Andreas on mobile page; the general overview of the bundle is on the GTA Trilogy page.
