GTA 5 under the bridge flights: where to fly all 50 and what to fly

Updated: 06.11.2026 Author: Alex Rayne
A biplane flies over the hills of Blaine County in GTA 5

All 50 GTA 5 under the bridge flights (Under the Bridge) with areas and landmarks. What counts, which helicopter to use, how many bridges you need for 100% and how to get Close Shave.

In short
  • Story mode in GTA 5 has 50 bridges for Under the Bridge flights.
  • 25 of the 50 are enough for 100% completion.
  • The Close Shave achievement is only awarded for all 50 bridges together with all 15 Knife Flights.
  • A helicopter is the easiest way to fly, and the tightest bridges are best done in a Buzzard.

Under the Bridge is one of the collections that count toward 100% completion of GTA 5. Its companion collection is Knife Flights. The full list of achievements is on the GTA 5 achievements page.

What counts as an under the bridge flight

  • You have to fly under the bridge in a plane or a helicopter.
  • You must not touch the bridge, its supports, the ground or the water.
  • The game confirms a successful pass with an on-screen message.
  • Fly in story mode free roam. According to Fandom, passes during a Mission Replay don't count, even though the message appears.

What to fly under the bridges

A helicopter is the best choice. It is easier to control than a plane, especially under low bridges: you can approach and make the pass slowly.

The Buzzard is needed for the narrowest bridges because of its small rotor. For example, the two tight bridges over the upper Los Santos River (#1 and #2 in the table).

A Maverick sits on the hospital helipad in Central Los Santos. According to PowerPyx, you can do all 50 bridges in it, although other guides recommend the Buzzard for the tightest ones. If the Maverick doesn't spawn, PowerPyx suggests going down to the street and back up, or saving and reloading right away.

A plane counts too. The P-996 LAZER is faster, but harder to control in tight spots. The exception is the low Canal Rail Bridge in Banning (#30): according to Fandom, a stunt plane is better there, since a helicopter would almost have to touch the water.

More on aircraft is on the GTA 5 vehicles page.

Every guide uses its own numbering, there is no official order. The landmarks are compiled from game guides, so names and descriptions of some bridges may differ between sources.

Tips

  • The tightest bridges: technique. For bridges where the rotor barely fits between the supports, PowerPyx suggests lining up with the gap, landing to kill your momentum, then taking off and flying straight through at a moderate speed. Under the low Canal Rail Bridge (#30), build up forward speed, level the helicopter out and glide under the bridge while holding your height.
  • Save often. Quick save before tricky bridges so you don't have to fly all the way back after a crash.
  • Repair the helicopter without finding a new one. If it is badly damaged, GTABoss suggests switching to another character and back, and PowerPyx suggests saving and reloading right away: after that the aircraft is in one piece again.
  • Fly as Trevor. According to guides, he has the best Flying skill from the start of the game.
  • Level up Flying. Flight School raises the skill. According to PowerPyx, it also goes up 1% for every 10 minutes of flight and for every pass under a bridge.
  • Fly in series. Some bridges come in pairs and can be done in one run: #1–2, #18–19, #42–43, the canal #33–39.
  • Slow down for the tight ones. Wooden bridge #22 and the gorge bridge #47 are easy to miss, so approach slowly.
  • Check your progress. According to one guide, the counter is in Pause → Stats → Vehicles.

Other story collections: spaceship parts, letter scraps, stunt jumps and peyote. The full list is on the GTA 5 collectibles page.

GTA 5 under the bridge FAQ

How many bridges do you need for 100% in GTA 5?

Any 25 of the 50. The rest aren't needed for 100%, but without them you won't get Close Shave.

How do you get the Close Shave trophy?

Fly under all 50 bridges and complete all 15 Knife Flights. There is no separate achievement for the bridges alone.

What is best for flying under bridges in GTA 5?

A helicopter. For the narrowest bridges take the Buzzard with its small rotor. Under the low Canal Rail Bridge in Banning a stunt plane is easier.

Do you get money for under the bridge flights?

No. The bridges give progress toward 100% and Close Shave, but no money.
